Jacks Roadtrip: Same Spirit, New Ride

Two years after the long adventure with our Suzuki LJ80, we finally turned the key again, pointed the nose south, and headed back into what we love most: mountains, freedom, and our bed on top of a car-roof. However, this time there was one major difference: we took the road in our new 4x4 Mitsubishi L300 van.

Let’s be honest: our tiny but fearless Suzuki LJ80, which carried us for an entire year across borders, landscapes, and more dirt roads than we could count, was pretty perfect. It was small, loud, and simple. But life moves on, and so do travel setups. We upgraded to its bigger brother. Also not fast or modern, but with the same off-road spirit. The L300 might be bigger, but it still loves mountain tracks and places where normal vans hesitate. And, most importantly, it is still yellow and has that great tent on top.

After two years off the road, it felt great to travel again. This time through the Swiss and Italian Alps. A different scale than our year-long journey, but the same ritual of parking somewhere beautiful, climbing up into our rooftop tent, and falling asleep with sore legs. Once again, our home above the car was the rooftop tent from DareToBeDifferent, our trusted companion from our long trip. Setting it up again felt like muscle memory. Open, climb up, done. It’s simple, reliable, and has already proven that it can handle the most extreme travels.
