Rooftoptent roadtrip through France

It's that time of the year again to start planning vacations, vacation money will be deposited again this month so time to rain everything down and put together the ideal trip. To help you get started planning the ultimate Roadtrip through France, we have created an itinerary for you with different highlights, campsites and must-do activities.

France is known for its beautiful landscapes, delicious food and rich culture. And what could be better than discovering all this from the comfort of a rooftoptent? So check out our itinerary below.

Day 1: Netherlands to Reims

We start our road trip from the Netherlands and drive to the beautiful city of Reims in northeastern France. Here you can visit the famous Reims Cathedral, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are several campsites in the area, including 

Camping tip: Camping Municipal de la Source and Camping Les Bords de l'Aisne.

 

Day 2: Reims to Dijon

From Reims, drive to Dijon, a city in the Burgundy region known for its delicious food and wine. Visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon or stroll through the charming old town. 

Camping tip: Campsites nearby include Camping de l'Etang du Merle and Camping Municipal Les Chaumes.

 

Day 3: Dijon to Annecy

We continue to Annecy, a picturesque town on the shores of Lake Annecy. Here you can kayak or paddleboard on the lake, or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Camping tip: Some campsites in the area include Camping Le Belvédère and Camping La Ravoire.

 

Day 4: Annecy to Aix-en-Provence

From Annecy, we drive to Aix-en-Provence, a city in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Visit the beautiful old town and enjoy the delicious food and wine in one of the many cafes and restaurants.

Campsites nearby are: Camping Le Devançon and Camping du Garlaban.

 

Day 5: Aix-en-Provence to Montpellier

Our next stop is Montpellier, a bustling city on the Mediterranean. Here you can visit the Musée Fabre, one of the largest art museums in France, or just enjoy the beach.

Campsites in the area include: camping le Mas de Reilhe and camping Le Clos de la Grangette.

 

Day 6: Montpellier to Carcassonne

We drive on to Carcassonne, a medieval city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit the impressive castle and walled city.

Camping tip: Camping de la Cité and Camping Le Moulin de Sainte Anne.

 

Day 7: Carcassonne to Bordeaux

Our last stop is Bordeaux, a city in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region known for its wine and architecture. Here you can enjoy delicious wine tastings and stroll around the charming old town.

Some campsites in the area are: Camping Le Village du Lac and Camping du Vieux Château.

 

Day 8: Bordeaux to La Rochelle

From Bordeaux, we drive to La Rochelle, a charming city on the Atlantic coast. Visit the city's medieval towers, stroll along the harbor and enjoy delicious seafood.

Nice camping are: Camping La Rochelle, Camping Le Beaulieu and Camping Les Minimes.

 

Day 9: La Rochelle to Nantes

From La Rochelle, we drive to Nantes, a city in the Pays de la Loire region. Visit the Château des Ducs de Bretagne and the beautiful park Jardin des Plantes. 

Camping tip: Camping La Pindière, Camping La Foret du Parc and Camping de l'Île Cariot.

 

Day 10: Nantes to Rouen

We continue to Rouen, a city in Normandy known for its Gothic cathedral and historic center. Visit the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rouen or stroll along the Seine.

Nearby campsites: Camping de la Forêt and Camping Le Marqueval.

 

Day 11: Rouen to Bruges

From Rouen, drive to Bruges, a charming city in Belgium known for its beautiful canals and medieval architecture. Take a boat tour of the canals or visit the famous chocolate museum.

Campsites: Camping Memling and Camping Klein Strand.

 

Day 12: Bruges to the Netherlands

From the last stop in Belgium, the drive back to the Netherlands to be able to clean up everything again and also ventilate and clean the rooftoptent one more time.
